Welcome to my Art Classes

I am Raya Brown – a professional Artist and Tutor with more than 25 years experience. I provide Art and Craft classes and courses for adults and children at the Magic Wool Art and Craft Studio in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

I have been creative since early childhood spending my spare time drawing, painting and crafting. My mother Rozaliya Zlotnikova an artist in St. Petersburg was great inspiration to me with her love of life and nature and the beauty she was able to see in the simplest of things. She showed me how to create from my heart and I feel very fortunate to have had her guidance.
I received a Classical Art education with emphasis on strong foundation knowledge and strong drawing skills.

Over the years I have explored many different materials and techniques, including Watercolour and Textiles. They became my main focus and you are welcome to view my work at the Gallery.
I have always been fascinated by colour, its numerous shades and tones, its strength and subtlety. Colour is a powerful tool which can be used to express the strongest and most delicate feelings, thoughts and emotions. My art is often inspired by nature and I endeavour to reflect the beauty and harmony of the surrounding world, sharing my feelings of hope, happiness and joy of life in my work. I hope this can be seen in my Art pieces.
I love sharing my passion for Art and expertise with my students. I use well-known examples of traditional and modern Art to inspire my students together with my own Art work.

Over the years I developed different Art courses and classes to suit a variety of needs, abilities and levels of my learners – from beginners to advanced. I teach one day workshops and part-time courses, which include assistant courses for Art and Craft enthusiasts, classes with focus on watercolour painting and outdoor landscape studies. The Art classes I provide for children aim to develop creativity, imaginative thinking and practical skills.

In the comfortable friendly atmosphere of my home studio the students enjoy learning Art and Crafts. In small groups of like-minded people they meet new friends as well as acquire new skills. They receive lots of individual help, including step-by-step instructions and demonstrations.

I believe that strong drawing skills and the knowledge of basic Art principals are very important for development of any Art and Craft work. I encourage my students to work from direct observation and outdoors “en plein air” when the weather permits!
My students love exploring and experimenting with various materials such as pastels, graphite, coloured pencils, watercolour, wool fibres as well as learning new techniques.

I firmly believe that you can become a good artist and achieve great results with practice and dedication.
With strong Art foundation skills, lots of encouragement and a creative approach my students make good progress and develop their own artistic style. They take part in exhibitions and return to take part in further courses to advance their skills.
